WHAT ACTUALLY ARE GLUTEN IN BEER?
The Nutrition Center answers this question: “Gluten is a mixture of proteins that naturally occurs in certain grains, such as wheat.” To be precise, they are the proteins gliadins and glutenins. These serve as reserve food for the plants and are soluble in water. Gluten is found in wheat, spelt, rye, barley and barley. Gluten is therefore found in bread, pizza and pastries. But it is also found in pasta, soup, sauce, candy, ice cream and… beer.
HOW CAN YOUBE BOTHERED ABOUT?
There are people who are allergic to gluten. They then suffer from Celiac disease and should really not have gluten. There are also people who do not have Celiac disease, but are still sensitive to gluten.
WHY IS IT IN (ALCOHOLIC) BEER?
Most beers are made with barley or wheat, which automatically means there is gluten in the beer. There is no difference between beer with or without alcohol. However, there is a solution for this: gluten-free alcohol-free beer

HOW DO THEY MAKE BEER GLUTEN FREE?
This can be done by using oats or the ancient grain Teff instead of normal grains when brewing the beer. It originally contains no gluten. But more often than not, the Gluten is removed from a normally brewed beer. The beer is then “deglutanized”. The product then contains less than 20 ppm gluten (= 20 mg/kg product) and can therefore use the official Crossed Grain quality mark.
