ADVENT CALENDER 2024

Amundsen_Santas_Cinnamon_Smores.jpg

NuWave - Mood Enhancing AF Hazy Pale

December 24

Save the best for last

This is a festive, non-alcoholic Christmas beer specially brewed to capture the warm, sweet flavors of the season. Quite a few Christmas beers come from Scandinavia, so it's really a thing there. They often use special spices, such as cinnamon, cloves and cardamom, which are also used in traditional Christmas drinks.

This beer has a deep, almost black color with a light foam head that is reminiscent of a warm mug of cocoa. Upon opening, the fragrant notes of cinnamon, roasted marshmallows and a hint of vanilla immediately emerge, evoking the typical aromas of winter delicacies. The taste is creamy with sweet nuances of chocolate, a hint of spices and a subtle smokiness reminiscent of a campfire.

Not available in our shop.

NuWave - Mood Enhancing AF Hazy Pale

December 23

The next big thing?

On the second to last day of the calendar we present you something special. It is an alcohol-free beer with added “botanicals and biotics”. These ensure that this is an energetic drink and makes you happy. We are always skeptical about this to be honest, but we would like to let you try it yourself as the proof is in the pudding of course.
This innovative drink comes from the Ilkley brewery (that Stout from day 10) and tastes very good. It also gets good ratings on Untappd, so we're not the only ones who think so. And whether that good taste comes from the added plant extracts and living cultures (freely translated) or from the classic Citra hops that are used, we leave it up to you. We are curious what you think of it.

Põhjala_Laaager.jpg

Põhjala - Laager

December 22

How low can you go?

A nice story about this beer is that we received the variant with alcohol 3 times from Estonia and were therefore unable to put it on sale. Don't worry, these were then sold to our alcoholic colleagues and did not go all the way back to Tallinn.
Another (un)interesting fact is that the can is so incredibly shiny that we can't get a good photo of it and the image becomes overexposed very quickly. Hence the product photo of Põhjala is used here.
Nice and important, we hear you think, but how does the beer taste? It is based on the alcohol variant and has all the characteristics of a solid Lager, with a slight hint of grass and grain. The addition of extra hops gives the beer a subtle sharpness. In short, an excellent Lager that certainly deserves the extra "A"!
Oh, and Lager means Low in Dutch, hence the subtitle.
Here are a few more for sale.

Teedawn - Driving home from Christmas

December 21

Chris Rea on repeat

In consultation with our Danish friends from Teedawn, they have brewed a Christmas beer especially for this box. Friend of our show Henrik has brewed a nice typical Christmas Ale with the use of caramel which gives it a deeper taste. The beer pairs well with pork, chicken, cheese and of course the Christmas spirit.
Did you know that Teedawn is the very first brewery in the world that only made non-alcoholic beer (since 2014)? And that outside Denmark they can only be purchased in a store in Japan, one in the US and our shop of course? So super exclusive.
We still have a few for sale here and otherwise you can always buy their other beers.

Zeer_Brewing_NINA.jpg

Zeer - Nina

December 20

Swiss precision

Our search for special beers for the Advent calendar also led us to Switzerland. The small brewery Zeer has developed two IPAs there with a special taste. They had these beers brewed at the Proefbrouwerij in Belgium and unfortunately these beers had to come to us via Switzerland. This results in the necessary transport and customs issues. But we are happy to do that to be able to present this unique beer to you.
Nina is the sister of Zipa, who we have had in our shop before. They differ from each other by the hops used, where Nina has used slightly more aromatic hops, making this a "heavy nuanced IPA". Curious how you think it tastes.
And there are a few more for sale here.

Loah_Lager_Peach.jpg

Loah - Lager Peach

December 19

A-Loah-A 👋🏼

This time a Peachy Lager. The chosen hop varieties ensure that this beer has beautiful notes of stone fruit. That makes the beer, in addition to Crispy, also Crushable according to the brewer.
Loah is registered as a Brewpub from London, but we have not yet been able to find the location. They have been around since 2020 and only brew alcohol-free and have two other well-known flavors, Blood Orange IPA and Lager Lime. They are not super active, but have acquired a position in the non-alcoholic beer landscape.
Did you know that the design of this can was inspired by a painting by Margritte called The False Mirror (or Le Faux Miroir).

Read more about this beer and this brewery on the site.

Nirvana-Pils.jpg

Nirvana - Pils

December 18

Smells Like Teen Spirit

One of the most beautiful and difficult beer styles to make properly alcohol-free remains the Pilsner. This strain has now been “raped” by the large commercial breweries, but sometimes you still come across a craft brewer who takes the original recipe out of the closet and gives it a try. And when you taste this you immediately know the difference between craft and industrial beer.
Nirvana, one of about 25 non-alcoholic beer breweries from England, has released this Pilsner according to an original German recipe. And, as they say themselves, with a little twist.
The flavor description states that this beer is “Crisp”. We googled that for you and it stands for a refreshing, dry and light taste experience. It means that the beer has a clean, crisp finish, without being too heavy or too sweet. And that is certainly true in this case.

Hedonis - Ouwen Duiker

December 17

The Old Diver

Ouwen Duiker (meaning Old Diver) alcohol-free is a tasty, non-alcoholic variant of the popular Ouwen Duiker blond beer from the Belgian Hedonis Brewery. This golden yellow beer has a bright appearance and is crowned by an airy, white foam head that immediately invites you to taste it. When inhaled, fresh citrus scents come together with a subtle malt aroma and a hint of spice. The taste is surprisingly full and complex, with a perfect balance between soft malt sweetness, a slight bitterness and a fruity, fresh undertone.
Brouwerij Hedonis, located in the heart of West Flanders, is a craft brewery known for its innovative and tasty beers. The brand has positioned itself as a pioneer in the Belgian beer world, with a focus on quality and creativity. The name "Hedonis" is derived from the word hedonism, which means pleasure and enjoyment – a philosophy that is reflected in every aspect of their brewing process. Hedonis strives to create beers that provide a rich and enjoyable taste experience.

Er Was Eens - Boudica’s Break

December 16

GUSHER ALERT!!!

Kevin runs a small brewery in Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands, called Er Was Eens (meaning Once Upon a Time), where he not only brews specials, but has also specialized in making alcohol-free beer and pasteurizing it. This has already led to an impressive Stout called Aegir's Day Off, and now there is also a Red Ale. This has a delicious smoky taste, which means it deserves a unique place in our range. Of course it should not be missing from the Advent calendar.
Please note: when we tasted the beer yesterday, it turned out to be a gusher. It came out of the bottle with a loud bang. So open it carefully in or near the sink and try not to waste too much beer, because it's a great brewery creation (just like the label).
We still have a few left in our shop.

Menabra_zz.jpg

Menabrea Zero Zero

December 15

La dolce vita in a bottle

We had already come across Menanbrea with alcohol, but this alcohol-free variant is new to us.
Menabrea Zero Zero is a refined alcohol-free lager with a nice taste and a nice compact foam (for the foam fetishists among us). Menabrea is the oldest active beer brewery in Italy, founded in 1846 in Biella (Piemonte). It is part of a larger group (Bottled Ventures Group) but still operates independently. It has now grown into one of the largest breweries in Italy. The beer is brewed with local ingredients and pure water from the Biella Alps, which ensures the unique and fresh taste of Menabrea.

Galea - Holy Fruity

December 14

Pineapple and ginger - golden combination

Today a slightly more exciting beer. We know that you may not like ginger and/or pineapple, so this sour may not be for you. But if you are open to it, then this is one of the tastiest non-alcoholic beers available now.
The ginger dances with the sharp edge of the pineapple (we understood from another brewer that the taste of Mango, for example, is completely lost). And then this really is a party in your mouth. Wonderful to open the third Advent weekend.
Galea is known for its innovative beers and regularly releases limited editions. If you haven't tried their Holy Roasty yet (it was on the calendar last year), we definitely recommend it. In our opinion, this is one of the best non-alcoholic Stouts ever!

Brulo - Highway to Hell

December 13

Great song, great beer!

Highway to Hell is not only an AC/DC* song but also a beautiful Lager. This Scottish brewer has his beer brewed at the Proefbrouwerij in Belgium. Previously, these beers first went to England and then back to the Netherlands. Fortunately, we now receive them directly from Belgium.
Highway to Hell is a Lager and has a distinct flavor profile characterized by a rich combination of hops and malt. The scent is refined and inviting, while the taste offers a nice balance between light hop bitterness and a subtle fruity sweetness.
If you are not yet familiar with Brulo, we definitely recommend that you try the other varieties as well. It is one of the most prominent alcohol-free beer breweries available at the moment. And completely alcohol-free (0.0), so this is also a good option if you are pregnant.
More Brulo

*did you know that AC stands for 'alternating current'. DC, on the other hand, stands for 'direct current'.

Hert-Bier-Make-me-Hazy.jpg

Hert Bier - Hazy IPA

December 12

Oh Deer..

The story of Hert Brouwerij (meaning Deer) has a sad ending. The brewery was founded in 2014 by friends Carlo Ruiter, Johan Graveland, Marcel van Pijlen and Marcel van Hierden. In 2017 they opened their own brewery on the Keizerswoert industrial estate in Putten, where they organized tours and beer tastings.
Unfortunately, they declared bankruptcy a month ago. Various factors have ensured that, like many other breweries, they could no longer survive financially.
Fortunately, at the last minute we were able to save their best non-alcoholic beer (according to Untappd), and you can find it in box 12. It's a Hazy IPA and the description on Untappd says it beautifully: it's like a fog that clears after a tropical rain shower. In any case, it was not due to the nice description of the beer.
Cheers!

We still have a few.

Pinta_Mini_Maxi_IPA.jpg

Pinta - Mini Maxi IPA

December 11

Classic

As we promised, we have also included a number of classics in the calendar, and this IPA is one of them. It is one of the first (but certainly not the last) beers that we received from Poland in our shop. Pinta is a brewery that was founded in 2011 and has now released hundreds of beers. The brewery is located in Wieprz, a village in southern Poland, between Krakow and Katowice.
In 2020 they released their first non-alcoholic beer and that was this IPA. With this they immediately proved that there is certainly a demand for non-alcoholic beers in Poland. Nowadays, after England, most new non-alcoholic beers come from Poland.
Go back a few years and enjoy this (now even further improved) IPA.

Ilkley_Nowt_Mary.jpeg

Ilkley Brewery Nowt Mary

December 10

Stout Mary re-imagined

In the world of non-alcoholic beer, we don't come across stouts very often, so when we discover one, we are immediately excited about it. In 2024, Nowt Mary received the title of 'World's Best Alcohol-Free Stout' at the World Alcohol-Free Drinks Awards. This immediately made us curious, and after tasting it it was clear to us: this definitely had to be included in the Advent calendar.
Nowt Mary has a deep brown color with ivory foam and an aroma of coffee and roasted malt. The taste is full and complex, with a nice balance between coffee and chocolate notes, leading to a satisfying aftertaste.
But try it yourself and draw your own conclusion. The power of this stout is mainly in the aftertaste, which is typical of non-alcoholic stouts.

Klootzakske - Tante Nonneke

December 9

Divine Beer

On this Monday we offer you a “fruity hopped blonde” as they call it at Brouwerij Klootzakske. The use of Amarillo and Mosaic gives the beer a cheerful taste (citrus, floral and tropical fruit aroma), but is still quite bitter with 35 IBU. A nice combination and perfect to start the new week.
The brewery comes from Zwevegem (BE) and was created during a surprise weekend by a number of friends who call themselves the Klootzakskes (hence the name). They only have a very limited number of beers (4), but there is also an alcohol-free one among them.

Chug_E.jpeg

Mash Gang - Chug

December 8

Chug Norris's favorite

If you have been shopping with us for a while, you know that Mash Gang is our signature brand. That is why it should not be missing from this calendar. On this second Sunday of Advent we opted for their most famous and, in our opinion, one of the tastiest beers they have. The Chug comes from Mash Gang's Core Range and they used beautiful tropical hops*. It has a present and round bitterness and a balanced base, with a cheerful body. Easy to drink, so you'll want another one when it's gone. And the addition of a little bit of Chili gives it a special bite. Even people who normally don't like non-alcoholic beers gave it a thumbs up.

Did you know that Mash Gang has been taken over by an American party? DioniLife has taken over the brewery and has the ambition to make alcohol-free (beer) even bigger. And this fits in nicely with Mash Gang's purpose (and ours), so those are only great prospects.
What's less nice is that we had to stop our Mash Gang subscription, as there are far fewer beers coming from the UK. Good news is that Mash Gang beers are now also coming over from the US that we can offer you. If all goes well, the first beers from the US will arrive before the end of this month, including this Stout. So keep an eye on our site, emailing and socials.

Sierra Nevada Trail Pass IPA

December 7th

You smell the mountains

All the way from the US! Sierra Nevada's Trail Pass IPA offers a refreshing experience with a hop explosion of citrus and pine from the Amarillo and CTZ hops. The silky malt body and clean hop bitterness are exactly what you would expect from a world-class IPA, but with less than 0.5% ABV.
The Trail Pass IPA captures the iconic citrus and pine flavors that a Sierra Nevada IPA also has. Let yourself be carried away by the hoppy scents and experience how the smooth maltiness envelops your taste buds. It's like walking through a hop forest.
James Conery, Innovation Brewmaster at Sierra Nevada, says: “It meets all our criteria for what we would call a craft IPA — not necessarily a craft non-alcoholic IPA, but just a craft IPA.” Trail Pass is brewed using traditional methods, without removing alcohol, so it remains full-bodied, with an ABV of less than 0.5%.

Did you know that Sierra Nevada Brewery founders Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi started the brewery in 1980 with an investment of just $50,000. And today, Sierra Nevada is one of the largest and most successful independent breweries in the United States.

Delirium -Delirio

December 5th

Very Special

Sinterklaas (a Dutch tradition that is today) brings us Delirio from Delirium, a beer that proves that even without alcohol the typical pink elephant retains its flair! This gem from the stables of Brouwerij Huyghe has an alcohol percentage of 0.3%
Imagine: a fresh breeze of malty scents with a hint of spice and a hint of fruit that tickles your nose. At the first sip you are greeted by a soft, round taste with a subtle spicy character and a hoppy, fruity aftertaste. It feels like your taste buds are having a little party. But we won't reveal anything else yet 🙂
Food pairing tip: This beer screams for light, fresh dishes. Think of a fresh salad with grilled chicken and a citrus dressing, or soft cheeses such as a creamy brie. Want a little adventure? Try it with spicy Asian snacks, such as Thai curry or Vietnamese spring rolls. The beer blows a cooling breeze over the heat of the herbs. A match made in food heaven!

Omnipollo - Zodiak

December 3rd

Which zodiac sign are you?

Zodiak Non-Alcoholic IPA from the Swedish brewery Omnipollo is an alcohol-free beer that retains the essence of a classic IPA. With only 0.3% alcohol and a low calorie content (30 kCal/100ml), it offers a full taste experience, thanks to a carefully balanced mix of hops and malt. The beer is inspired by the original Zodiak IPA and emphasizes fruity and hoppy aromas, without sacrificing drinkability. The name “Zodiac” refers to the zodiac, an astrological concept that represents 12 constellations and is often associated with personal characteristics and cosmic energies. This symbolism ties in with Omnipollo's creative, artistic approach to beer brewing.

Kingfisher-Zero.jpg

Kingfisher Zero

December 2nd

All the way from India

Our first beer from India, so we had to include it in the Advent calendar. Wonderfully fresh pilsner that, how could it be otherwise, goes perfectly with a delicious Indian curry. On the label you can find an image of a Kingfisher. A common bird in India popular for its colorful plumage and fast hunting technique, diving into the water from the air to catch fish. The presence of the Kingfisher as a symbol on the Kingfisher beer label is therefore appropriate.

Belgian Balance - Barking White

December 1st

Belgian Balance Brewing Project & Barking White IPA

Belgian Balance is a brewing project born in Brussels, dedicated to redefining the beer experience through a focus on non-alcoholic (NA) beers. We believe that enjoying a great beer doesn’t always have to include alcohol, and our mission is to craft NA beers that are as flavorful, complex, and satisfying as their traditional counterparts. By combining Belgium’s deep brewing heritage with modern techniques, we create balanced brews that appeal to both beer enthusiasts and those seeking alcohol-free options.

Our Barking White IPA is a prime example of what Belgian Balance stands for. This alcohol-free beer marries the refreshing, zesty notes of a Belgian witbier with the bold, hoppy character of an IPA. The result is a crisp and vibrant beer featuring citrus aromas, a touch of spice, and a clean, slightly bitter finish. It’s a beer that proves NA doesn’t mean compromising on flavor or quality.
